ELAACC 2027

European Left Atrial Appendage Closure Club

Friday 12th & Saturday 13th March 2027

Seville, Spain

Where LAAC Practice Is Defined, Not Just Discussed

Europe’s dedicated LAAC consensus forum — bringing together leading operators to challenge practice, interpret emerging evidence, and shape the future of left atrial appendage closure.

WHY ELAACC?

A different kind of meeting. A true expert forum.

Progress in left atrial appendage closure depends on asking difficult questions—and examining the answers together.

ELAACC brings interventional cardiology, electrophysiology and cardiovascular imaging into a closed, expert-led club format built for rigorous discussion, shared experience and practical clinical decisions.

Here, landmark trials meet the realities of individual patients, challenging anatomy and everyday practice.

  • Evidence is interrogated

  • Experience is challenged

  • Consensus is built—and uncertainty made explicit

What makes ELAACC unique?

Consensus with a purpose
Structured debate and expert voting to identify where practice can align, where opinions differ and where further evidence is needed.

Clinical decisions at the centre
Who to treat, when to intervene, which approach to choose and how to balance stroke prevention, bleeding risk and procedural safety.

Technical depth
Candid discussion of imaging, device selection, implantation strategy, complications and follow-up—with practical lessons for experienced operators and their teams.

Multidisciplinary thinking
Interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists and imaging specialists working through the same cases, testing assumptions and building a shared approach.

An ambition beyond the meeting
Developing evidence-informed clinical positions that can support everyday practice, future research and the evolution of recommendations.

WHY 2027 MATTERS

New evidence. More options. Decisions that demand scrutiny.

Left atrial appendage closure is entering a more complex phase. Landmark trials are sharpening the debate about its place alongside oral anticoagulation—and showing why patient populations, procedural risk and the outcomes we measure matter.

CHAMPION-AF, CLOSURE-AF and OPTION raise distinct questions about anticoagulation-eligible patients, patients at high risk of stroke and bleeding, and those undergoing AF ablation. Their findings demand careful interpretation, with close attention to whom the results apply.

Meanwhile, evolving device designs, CT-based planning, three-dimensional intracardiac echocardiography and new evidence on post-implant antithrombotic therapy are expanding the choices facing clinical teams.

For 2027, the central challenge is to define where LAAC offers meaningful benefit—and how to deliver that benefit consistently.

ELAACC will focus on the questions that matter:

  • Who should receive LAAC—and who should not?
Integrating trial evidence with bleeding history, stroke risk, frailty, life expectancy and patient preferences.

  • Where does LAAC fit alongside DOACs and AF ablation?
Examining the evidence for treatment alternatives, combined procedures and staged approaches.

  • Which technologies and techniques improve outcomes?
Evaluating device design, anatomical suitability, CT planning, TOE and 3D ICE guidance beyond technical success alone.

  • What should happen after implantation?
Individualising antithrombotic treatment and surveillance, and addressing device-related thrombus and peri-device leak.

  • What should define high-quality LAAC care?
Moving from successful implantation to durable clinical benefit through appropriate selection, procedural safety and consistent follow-up.

ELAACC 2027 brings these questions into one room—through structured debate, expert voting and consensus building grounded in evidence and clinical experience.

WHAT YOU WILL GAIN

Sharper judgement. Practical insights. A voice in the discussion.

By participating in ELAACC 2027, you will:

  • Strengthen patient selection by understanding where the evidence supports LAAC—and where uncertainty remains

  • Explore how leading centres translate landmark trial findings into clinical decisions

  • Refine your imaging, device selection and implantation strategy

  • Reassess post-implant antithrombotic treatment and follow-up

  • Benchmark your approach against experienced European and international colleagues

  • Contribute to evidence-informed consensus and help identify priorities for future research

PROGRAMME HIGHLIGHTS

The evidence, the controversies and the decisions that matter.

The ELAACC 2027 programme centres on structured debate, challenging cases and critical appraisal, including:

  • Landmark trials in context
Examining CHAMPION-AF, CLOSURE-AF and OPTION, alongside emerging evidence—with attention to patient populations, endpoints and implications for practice.

  • Patient selection under scrutiny
Debating anticoagulation eligibility, bleeding risk, frailty and the place of LAAC within AF treatment pathways.

  • Imaging, technology and technique
Exploring CT planning, TOE and 3D ICE guidance, evolving device designs and the potential role of AI-assisted workflows.

  • Beyond implantation
Addressing antithrombotic treatment, surveillance, peri-device leak and device-related thrombus.

  • Cases that challenge practice
Working through difficult anatomy, procedural complications and decisions without a straightforward answer.

  • Interactive voting and expert debate
Making agreement, disagreement and the reasoning behind clinical choices visible.

  • Registry insights and international collaboration
Exploring how European and US experience can inform practice, reveal variation and guide new research.

ELAACC 2.0

From discussion to clinical direction

ELAACC 2027 advances the meeting’s evolution into a platform for critical appraisal, practical consensus and collaborative research.

The format connects each discussion to a clear purpose:

  • Focused questions that reflect real clinical dilemmas

  • Structured debates that test evidence and experience

  • Expert voting that captures agreement and unresolved differences

  • Defined takeaways that distinguish actionable conclusions from evidence gaps

  • A pathway to publication for outputs that merit wider dissemination

The ambition is clear: turn expert exchange into useful direction for the field.

OUTPUTS & IMPACT

An impact that extends beyond the meeting.

ELAACC aims to translate its discussions into:

  • Consensus statements and publications grounded in critical appraisal and transparent expert agreement

  • Practical clinical considerations for patient selection, procedural planning and follow-up

  • Registry insights and opportunities for collaboration across centres and countries

  • Clearly defined evidence gaps and research priorities

  • Evidence-informed perspectives that can contribute to future recommendations

The value lies both in identifying where practice can align and in defining the questions that still need answers.

THE CLUB

Expert-led. In person by invitation. Connected worldwide.

ELAACC’s in-person meeting brings together a select group of experienced operators and multidisciplinary experts.

The deliberately limited format creates space for detailed case discussion, candid exchange and constructive challenge—from interpreting evidence to managing complications.

Through the live stream, the wider clinical community can follow the debates and bring those insights back to their own teams.

Focused discussion in the room. Shared learning beyond it.
